2015 Volkswagen Tiguan Clutch Pedal Stuck to the Floor
This 2015 VW Tiguan clutch repair started with a frustrating repeat problem: the clutch pedal would stick to the floor. The customer told us the clutch master cylinder had already been replaced elsewhere, but the same symptom returned a couple of days later. Eddie The Mobile Mechanic attended the vehicle, diagnosed the concentric slave cylinder as the fault and replaced it together with the clutch kit.
The job at a glance
- Vehicle: 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan with a manual clutch.
- Reported symptom: clutch pedal sticking to the floor.
- Previous repair: clutch master cylinder replaced elsewhere; the symptom returned within a few days.
- Our diagnosis: faulty concentric slave cylinder (CSC).
- Repair completed: concentric slave cylinder and clutch kit replacement.
- Outcome: the repair was completed and the customer was very happy with the result.
Why the earlier master-cylinder replacement did not resolve this fault
The customer’s repair history was an important starting point. Because the pedal problem had returned so soon, the vehicle needed a fresh diagnosis of the clutch operating system.
The master cylinder and slave cylinder perform different jobs. Pressing the clutch pedal operates the master cylinder, which sends hydraulic pressure through the system. The slave cylinder uses that pressure to operate the clutch release mechanism. A concentric slave cylinder combines the hydraulic actuator and release bearing in an assembly around the gearbox input shaft.
Replacing a master cylinder does not repair a separate fault in the slave cylinder. In this Tiguan, our diagnosis identified the concentric slave cylinder as the component requiring replacement. A similar symptom on another vehicle can have a different cause, so this case should not be treated as a diagnosis for every Volkswagen with a sticking clutch pedal.
Concentric slave cylinder and clutch kit replacement
We replaced the faulty concentric slave cylinder along with the clutch kit. The original photographs below document the gearbox bellhousing, the removed slave cylinder and clutch components, the new parts and the replacement assemblies during the repair.
Access to a concentric slave cylinder involves significant work around the clutch and gearbox. Completing related clutch work during the same repair can avoid repeating that access later. The correct repair scope still depends on the vehicle, the condition of the components and the diagnosed fault.
The result
The Tiguan’s clutch repair was completed, and the customer was very happy with the outcome. The useful lesson from this job is to investigate the reason a symptom has returned, even when a related component has recently been replaced.

Questions about a clutch pedal that stays down
Does a clutch pedal sticking to the floor always mean the clutch kit has failed?
No. A pedal that does not return can involve the hydraulic operating system or the release mechanism. The symptom alone cannot identify which part needs replacing. This Tiguan had a diagnosed concentric slave cylinder fault, and we replaced the clutch kit during the same repair.
Can the problem return after a new master cylinder?
Yes, if another fault remains in the system. Tell your mechanic which parts were replaced and when the symptom returned. That history helps guide the assessment and avoids assuming that the previous repair addressed every possible cause.
What should I do if my clutch pedal stays on the floor?
If you cannot reliably disengage the clutch or select gears, stop using the vehicle and arrange an assessment. If it happens while driving, stop in a safe place as soon as it is safe to do so. Let the mechanic know whether the fault is constant or intermittent and whether any clutch work has recently been carried out.
